Mystery as pub stays shut
Mystery surrounds a Shropshire pub which has been closed all week with even the owners admitting they have no idea where the landlady is.
The George and Dragon pub on Much Wenlock High Street has been closed since Monday. There is a sign in the window saying it is closed due to technical problems.
But rumours around the town claim landlady Angela Gray has left the pub, which is owned by Punch Taverns.
Lin Hamorak, business relationship manager at Punch Taverns, said: “I don’t know exactly what’s going on, so I can’t say anything concrete.
“As far as we’re concerned there are no financial issues with that pub.”

Coronation of the King of Tonga, George Tupou V.

The king’s grandmother, Queen Salote, who weighed in at 23 stone, won affection at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth in 1953 by refusing to have the hood of her carriage closed as it drove through the London rain. She and her companion, the diminutive Sultan of Kelantan in Malaya, got soaked, but the public got their view.
Famously among the onlookers, Noel Coward was asked by a friend who was the little man sitting beside Queen Salote. "Her lunch," Coward is reported to have quipped.
