Cuts
Andrew Rawnsley puts his finger on a key issue on the Gove "Schools rebuilding cuts" in the Observer: “The furore around Michael Gove ought to serve as a caution to his colleagues. It illustrates how easy it is to swagger your machismo as an axeman when you are talking abstract percentages and how hard it is when you have to bring down the blade. It is one thing to type some numbers into a Whitehall spreadsheet and quite another to translate them into real cuts to real services used by real voters.”
Mooning Amtrak in Laguna Niguel
Mooners line up for a northbound Pacific Surfliner during the 31st annual "Mooning of Amtrak" across from the Mugs Away Saloon in Laguna Niguel, Saturday morning, July 10.
I think that is Tony Corke on the extreme left!
Scores of people dropped their pants or hoisted up their skirts to bare their bums at Amtrak and Metrolink trains Saturday for the annual "Mooning of the Amtrak" celebration, a tradition that began more three decades ago but has become more subdued in recent years.
Everyone from grandmothers, bikers, housewives, and even couples on dates came out for the daylong mooning along the tracks, just across the street from Mugs Away Saloon.
"This is so much fun," said Kim Norris, who arrived at 10 a.m. with her husband. "It took me about a week to build up the courage to do this, and another week to talk my husband into it. But it was all worth it."
