I had a sinus lift today
A sinus-lift is a surgical procedure performed by an appropriately trained dentist, to augment bone mass in the top jaw, which increases the likelihood of successful placement of dental implants. Artificial bone grafting material is grafted into the bone above the floor of the sinus. In the upper jaw the amount of bone is reduced by the presence of the sinus.
I was two and a half hours in the chair but felt no pain at all and ended up with 10 stitches in my mouth which will come out next week. The artificial bone scaffold placed below the sinus will grow into solid bone and in four to six months an implant can be put into the bone and a tooth stuck on the end thus replacing a tooth without the need for a plate.
So I have that to look forward to when I return from Morocco in January – of didn’t i mention that – we are going to celebrate Keith’s 50th and Chris’s 21st in a Riad in the Medina, the old part of Marrakech!
My dentist took the picture of my sutured mouth as I asked him for something for the blog – thanks Richard!
YUK!!!!!
